The Basenji, commonly referred to as the "Barkless Dog," is one of the oldest breeds, appearing on ancient Egyptian engravings which dated back to 3600 B.C. In 1895 the Basenji was rediscovered in Africa by British explorers who took a pair back to England and exhibited them as the African Bush Dog.
Bitches stand 16 inches (41 cm) and weigh about 22 lbs (10 kg) and Dogs stand 17 inches (43 cm) weighing 24 lbs (11kg).
Further information on the Basenji is available from the Canadian Kennel Club or the American Kennel Club.
